HDFC Bank Limited is India's largest private sector bank by assets and market capitalisation, headquartered in Mumbai. Incorporated in August 1994, it commenced operations in January 1995 as a Scheduled Commercial Bank following RBI's liberalisation of the banking sector. In 2022, it merged with HDFC Ltd, India's largest housing finance company, creating a combined entity with over 8,300 branches, 177,000 employees, and a customer base exceeding 120 million. The bank is designated a Domestic Systemically Important Bank (D-SIB) by RBI, alongside SBI and ICICI Bank. It offers a full suite of financial services including retail banking, loans, credit cards, insurance, and mutual funds. As of 2025, it ranks as the 10th largest bank globally by market capitalisation.
